John Tavares faces the ultimate test in season opener


It’s official John Tavares has signed to a 3 year entry level contract with the New York Islanders. Tavares, the first overall pick in last months draft said “I’m excited to officially become a part of the New York Islanders organization and begin my professional career this upcoming season.” Tavares will be thrown right into the mix this upcoming as his first NHL game will be against Sidney Crosby and the defending Stanley Cup champion penguins October 3rd at the Coliseum. In what will be the most highly anticipated season opener for the Islanders in a very long time, expect for a major national interest in Tavares’s first game and how well he holds up playing with the big boys. If all goes well for Tavares and the Isles you can maybe foresee NBC and the NHL broadcast crew making a few trips the old barn in Hempstead this season.
